Interpreting Women's Lives during the American Civil War

Winter Fabrics

This post will be short; it is only to show the various fabrics I bought today for the different pieces of winter clothing I plan to make for a winter event in Vermont in February.

First the Petticoat. This is a wool twill. I plan to make it up pretty plainly at first and add embellishment as I have time. I also looked at a beautiful yellow flannel wool but the cost was out of budget.

Next are the stockings. This is a wool jersey knit, very soft to the touch. Very much like a wool tee-shirt.

Then drawers of Canton flannel. Oh this stuff is so soft. It will be nice and warm.

And last boiled wool for a muff. I have not yet decided on the lining and embellishments for the muff. I need to go dig through my stash.

I think all of these will keep me nice and toasty warm. If I have time I may attempt a Balmoral over hoop petticoat…maybe…
